Not a tropical island, but Balboa Island, Newport Beach, California. This densely packed, beachside community was built on a Newport Harbor sandbar in the early 20th century, and has been a thriving residential and tourist destination for nearly 100 years. Chris Crosson grew up on the quaint, man-made isle, and returns to his childhood beach nearly every weekend to play in the sand.
Doggie Walk Bags
Doggie Walk Bags is our family company. It was founded in 1988, after seeing too many people step in dog nuisances, we had to do something to clean up the sidewalks - and sand - around us. Doggie Walk Bags was an invention born out of necessity, where a simple blue bag was the tool for the job. Our bags make picking up after a dog easier, and aid pet owners around the world in keeping their communities cleaner.
Sand Castle Contests
The Annual Corona Del Mar Sandcastle Contest was originally a tool to market our bags. Our team was comprised of employees, (which were all family and friends), and sponsored by our company. Our sculpture themes revolved around dogs, and we always had a dispenser and bags ready to hand out. Year after year we enjoyed the bonding experience of creating a giant sand castle or sculpture. Over time, both our company and our sand creations grew larger, and more friends always want to join in and help. Every year we're back at the same beach to compete, and share in the fun of making something great out of nothing but a little sand, water, and imagination.
